WWE NXT results, winners, grades and reaction: Adam Cole won several awards in a special NXT episode
WWE NXT results, winners, grades and reaction: This was a special NXT episode to start the New Year with several awards handed out for the performances over the year.
2019 was a special year for NXT in its own right. The third brand won Survivor Series 2019 and saw several stars make the jump up the other two brands.
The Undisputed Era won several awards and they started it all by winning the NXT Tag Team of the Year.
Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly defeated the Street Profits to pick up the gold in August and have been excellent in their reign at the top.
Cole wins top award
Adam Cole has had an incredible 2019 and finished it off by winning the NXT Male Competitor of the Year.
The leader of the Undisputed Era and the NXT champion has taken on all comers and even holds a win over Daniel Bryan on SmackDown.
He won the title in June by defeating Johnny Gargano and has not looked back since.
Baszler wins as expected
Shayna Baszler has been another excellent champion on NXT, but she recently lost her title to Rhea Ripley.
She could be in the running for the title again. But for all the great work she did in the months prior to that, Baszler deserves the win.
Rivalry of the year
Gargano and Cole tore the house down earlier in 2019 as their rivalry blossomed. The pair were back to collect their awards, and it will be interesting to see if they are back fighting it out in the coming weeks.
Kai wins too
Dakota Kai might have shocked everyone in the NXT universe for her actions at TakeOver: WarGames but she picked up the NXT Future Star of the Year.
She betrayed her friend Tegan Nox and also Rhea Ripley but this was justification for a great year from the rising star.
WarGames wins
NXT has had some great TakeOvers over the past year but WarGames stood out. The two steel cages, the WarGames rules and the women also tearing it up, this year’s PPV had it all.
Breakout Star of the Year
The Limitless One picked up the win in this category. Keith Lee was excellent over the course of 2019 and was one of the stars at Survivor Series and WarGames.
Lee was also involved in a triple threat match to for the No.1 contender to face Cole and there should be more to come from the Breakout Star of the Year.
Gargano and Cole win again
The NXT Match of the Year had several bouts to be picked from but only one could come out on top.
That was the 2-out-of-3 falls match at TakeOver: New York between Gargano and Cole for the NXT title. The match itself was spectacular and set up one of the most heated rivalries in NXT history.
Cole wins the top award
Cole was the winner of the NXT Overall Competitor of the Year award and you couldn’t really argue with that.
The leader of the Undisputed Era has taken his faction to another level and has been dominant since winning the belt.
Cole and the Era seem set to continue their domination in 2020, and it will be interesting to see what is in line for Adam Cole, Bay Bay.
Grade A
You can’t really question any of the decisions regarding the awards given out. Rhea Ripley might have deserved something for her incredible rise in 2019, but that only took place in the final months of the year.
