WWE NXT results, winners, grades and reaction: The next TakeOver is almost a month away and WWE have already started building up for that.
This week’s NXT featured some steel cage matches, which were the highlights of the show, and WWE did a decent job of stacking the card too.
The episode started off with a steel cage match between Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox. Raquel Gonzalez also accompanied Kai to the ring but didn’t enter the cage.
The match started off with a flurry of punches before the real wrestling started. Nox hit a chokeslam on Kai and there were some high spots in the match too.
Gonzalez had a role to play in the ending though. She pinned Nox with the cage door and allowed Kai to pick up the win.
Kai beats Nox
Grade A
The rivalry between Kai and Nox has been building up for a while and this was a great match to start NXT off with.
It was also great to see that Gonzalez had a role to play in the win, but she only did that towards the end of the clash.
Chelsea Green was in action against Shotzi Blackheart. The winner would feature in the No.1 contender’s ladder match at the next TakeOver: Tampa.
Robert Stone was present ringside to cheer on Green, and it was his client that picked up the win over Blackheart.
Green beats Blackheart
Grade C
This match didn’t quite live up to the expectations of the opening one. There were some bland spots too but this is a boost for Green, and it will be interesting to see how she does at Tampa.
Keith Lee has been incredible over the past few months and a new rivalry seems to be brewing.
The Technical Savage, Cameron Grimes, was given the chance to face Lee for the North American title.
The champion tossed out his newest challenger, and this should be an interesting bout.
Grade B
The segment was alright, overall, but certainly, Lee needs someone bigger to face. Grimes is still a top competitor but him taking on the champion feels a little rushed.
Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly want to win their NXT tag team titles back but had to take on Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan this week.
The Undisputed Era pair of Fish and O’Reilly won the match, despite it looking like it could swing either way.
They had some words to say and challenged the Broserweights for the titles. The champions came out but were attacked by the Young Grizzled Veterans too.
Undisputed Era beats Burch & Lorcan
Grade B
The match itself was great as both teams had a real go at each other. However, it was the attack from the Young Grizzled Veterans that is the talking point ahead of the next tag team title defence.
Austin Theory had impressed in recent bouts against Tommaso Ciampa and Roderick Strong. He got a chance to show off his skills by taking on another rising star in Isaiah Scott.
It was Scott that has control for most of the match but Theory stayed in the clash and picked up the win via the ATL.
Theory beats Scott
Grade B
Both wrestlers are great workers in the ring and put on a great show for the NXT crowd.
Theory has looked good and it was a surprise he was given the win over Scott, given he was on the rise too.
Roderick Strong and Velveteen Dream put on a great show inside the steel cage and Marina Shafir also had a role to play.
The wife of Strong handed her husband a kendo stick to beat the Dream with but it was the opponent who tried to use that.
The rest of the Undisputed Era also came out to distract The Dream and there was one odd choice in the end.
Dream pushed Strong out of the cage, to hand his opponent the win. He then locked himself in the cage with Adam Cole and beat the champion down.
He climbed on top of the cage with the NXT title, signifying that he is ready for the big one.
Strong beats Dream
Grade A
Strong and Dream should have been fighting for a long time but Dream’s injury kept him out.
However, he is back and seems ready for the big clash against Cole, which should be a great match.
