Paige’s Early Life
Paige was born in Norwich on 17 August 1992. Her mother Julia Hamer-Bevis and father Patrick Bevis are wrestlers. Also, her half-brother Roy Bevis and brother Zak Zodiac are wrestlers. So basically, Paige hails from a professional wrestling family. The family runs the World Association of Wrestling promotion in Norwich. Paige’s mother is the owner of Bellatrix Female Warriors, which is a wrestling promotion in Norwich, exclusively for women.
Paige attended The Hewett School in Norwich and lost her younger brother when she was 13. The former WWE Divas Champion worked as a bartender and a bouncer at the pub owned by her parents while they were away.
Paige’s Early Career
Paige made her professional wrestling debut at the young age of 13. The opportunity came up by an accident as Paige had to fill in for a superstar who could not appear in time for a match on the latter’s father’s promotion.
Paige has also teamed with her mother to wrestle in matches. Her mother wrestled under the ring name Sweet Saraya while Paige used Britani Knight as her ring name back then. Paige teamed with Melodi and won the new World Association of Women’s Wrestling Tag Team Championship in June 2007 after defeating the Legion of Womb.
Paige wrestled all over Europe when she was still in her mid-teens. She has won as many as 10 different titles across various promotions before signing a contract with WWE in 2011.
Paige’s WWE career
Paige made her WWE debut on the developmental wing of the Stamford-based company, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) in 2012 during a house show using the name Saraya. Her first televised match came on the 26 February episode of FCW TV. Paige began to wrestle under her most popular ring name and it was her way to pay homage to Paige Matthews from Charmed.
After FCW rebranded to NXT, Paige enjoyed surreal success. She won a tournament to become the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion in 2013 and her reign continued for 301 days.
Paige made her main roster debut in 2014 on the RAW after WrestleMania 30 while still holding the NXT Women’s Championship. The British star congratulated AJ Lee for her victory at WrestleMania 30 but the latter slapped her.
An impromptu match was scheduled for the show where Lee defended her title against Paige. The newcomer shocked the WWE Universe as she defeated Lee to become the youngest Divas Champion at the age of 21. She also became the first woman to hold both the NXT Women’s Championship and Divas Championship at the same time.
Technically, Paige did not lose her NXT Women’s Championship but was forced to relinquish it as she was already the Divas Champion.
Her title reign lasted a little less than 3 months as Lee won back the title on the June 30 episode of RAW. Paige, however, won the title back from Lee at SummerSlam 2014 before losing it once again to the same opponent one month later at the Night of Champions pay-per-view.
Paige’s contribution to the Women’s Revolution
Paige was at the center of the Women’s Revolution in WWE. On the July 13 episode of RAW, she brought Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch from NXT and destroyed The Bella Twins and Alicia Fox.
They were named “Team PCB” and went on to become a famous trio in WWE. In a three-team elimination match at SummerSlam, Paige’s team came out victorious against Team B.A.D. and Team Bella.
On 17 August 2016, Paige was suspended for 30 days after violating the company’s wellness policy. The former two-time Divas Champion later explained that she had not failed a drug test, but that the suspension was due to a procedural issue.
In September 2016, Paige revealed that she would be undergoing neck surgery and would not be wrestling for an unknown period of time. On 10 October, Paige was suspended again for her second violation of the wellness policy; this time for 60 days.
Paige underwent neck surgery in October 2016 and returned to the ring in late 2017. This time Paige formed a faction with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville and the trio was called Absolution who ran riot in the Women’s division on RAW. Unfortunately, Paige once again endured a neck injury on a December 27 house show. This was during a six-woman tag team match at the show.
Paige accompanied Rose and Deville for some time before retiring officially from the in-ring competition on April 9, 2018, due to the neck injury.
After announcing her retirement, Paige was made the general manager of SmackDown. She was loved by the fans for her work. As per reports, Vince McMahon gave Paige this role to help her promote the film Fighting with My Family, which is about her life.
Paige moved away from the GM role and began managing the Kabuki Warriors Asuka and Kairi Sane. However, the Japanese stars betrayed Paige after a few months.
Paige’s last appearance in WWE was on the March 20, 2020, episode of SmackDown when she joined in via Skype and announced a match for WrestleMania 36.
Paige’s Relationships
Paige was engaged to guitarist Kevin Skaff in early 2016 before parting ways soon after. In October 2016, Paige got engaged to former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio but that relationship too did not last long. Paige accused Alberto of physical abuse but the Mexican star retorted saying that it was the other way round.
Paige has been dating Falling in Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke since the end of 2018.
