WWE Raw Results and Grades: One of the big talking points from this week’s Raw was Seth Rollins hosting a retirement party for Rey Mysterio.
Rollins had attacked Rey a couple of weeks back, leaving the former WWE Champion needing a lot of medical attention.
Another big story developing was Apollo Crews defending his newly won United States title. This was Crews’ first WWE title on the main roster, and it was interesting to see who he would choose as his rival.
This was a packed WWE Raw show and here are the results and grades.
The evening started with Rollins and his disciples coming out and saying goodbye to Mysterio. Rollins even said he would induct Rey into the WWE Hall of Fame and aired a package that mocked fun at the former champion.
Grade B
Rollins on the microphone is incredible and this Messiah gig is certainly getting the best out of him at the moment.
Aleister Black had come out to stop Rollins’ tribute to Rey as the first match of the night got underway.
Humberto Carrillo came out to pick a fight with Austin Theory and Buddy Murphy causing Rollins to lose via a roll-up.
The heels then destroyed Black and Carrillo.
Black beats Rollins
Grade B
The finish to the match wasn’t good but it should continue the feud between the two teams. Rollins vs Black was a great match and hopefully, we see more of it in the future.
We had a couple of vignettes of Angel Garza flirting with Charly Caruso and Shawn Michaels picking Edge to beat Randy Orton.
The next segment saw Crews call out Kevin Owens for the US title. The match saw a couple of quick falls before Garza and Andrade attacked the pair causing a no contest.
A tag match was set with Garza and Andrade taking on Crews and Owens. Crews and Owens picked up the win.
Crews and Owens beat Garza and Andrade
Grade C
It was weird to have that finish to the US title match and it WWE wanted to make a tag match, they should have done so from the start. Owens vs Crews deserves more time, but this was a wasted segment.
Before this match, the Viking Raiders defeated the Street Profits in bowling to take their sports rivalry to 2-2.
Nikki Cross then came out to face Billie Kay and it was the Aussie that got the win over one-half of the tag champions.
Kay beats Cross
Grade B
The IIconics seem set to win the tag titles after making a mess of it recently. It will be interesting to see how Cross and Alexa Bliss do against the Aussies.
Rey and his son, Dominick, were interviewed where the high-flyer confirmed he didn’t know when he was coming back from his injury. He hit out at Rollins for targeting him and all that was done before walking away.
Dominick, on the other hand, promised revenge saying “An eye for an eye”.
Grade A
Bringing Dominick into all this certainly makes for interesting viewing. WWE hasn’t shied away from using Rey’s son in the past, and it could be a huge tease to see Mysterio’s son finally in WWE.
Nia Jax took on Kairi Sane and it was the No.1 contender who got the win. However, Sane was busted open after being thrown headfirst into the steel steps and Asuka came out to make the save.
Jax beats Sane
Grade C
While Jax was made to look powerful, this was another example of her hurting another competitor. Sane picked up a brutal gash, and hopefully, she isn’t out of action for a long time.
Randy Orton came out before the clash to highlight how he would win in the match against Edge. Orton also said that Edge was jealous because Orton was handed a lot while Edge had to claw for everything in WWE.
Charlotte Flair vs Asuka was an excellent clash but was interrupted by Jax coming out wearing Asuka’s mask and face paint.
The referee seemed to count out Asuka as she was distracted and Jax destroyed the Raw Women’s Champion after the bell rang.
Charlotte beats Asuka
Grade A
The promo from Orton was one of the best we had seen in a long time. Similarly, the match between Asuka and Charlotte was great, however, the finish wasn’t all that. Jax could have come out after the match and then attacked Asuka.
Drew McIntyre faced off against MVP in a non-title match with Lana and Bobby Lashley by ringside. It was Drew that dominated the clash and took out both of the men during one part.
He then brought MVP back in the ring to win via a claymore kick. However, Lashley came out and applied the full nelson to McIntyre as the show ended.
McIntyre beats MVP
Grade B
The ending was botched again as WWE needed to show that Lashley had destroyed McIntyre ahead of their title fight.
McIntyre was always going to win over MVP but the finish needed to be better.
Bryan Alvarez shared the ratings for this week’s Raw and the numbers didn’t make for great reading.
Raw averaged 1.728million viewers over the three-hour cast. This fell down from 1.735m from last week, despite advertising a retirement ceremony for Rey Mysterio.
