The WWE made a decision to release some big superstars in their latest purge of the main roster. Singles star Luke Harper was the biggest name to be released while Sin Cara, Konnor and Viktor also left the company.
The company released a short note confirmed the release of the quartet and wished them the best for the future.
Harper is one of the best wrestlers in the company and it was criminal that they were underutilising the star.
He had a great run with Bray Wyatt during his earlier persona but hasn’t been seen as much in recent weeks.
Harper has been active on Twitter a lot but doesn’t really say much. He did, however, like several tweets from fellow WWE stars as they wished him the best for the future.
Harper’s Twitter profile also read: “I’ve never been more happy!”, although it is difficult to say if that is related to WWE’s decision.
Sin Cara is another who struggled in recent months for regular action but won the NXT tag title with Kalisto.
The high-flyer has had his issues with injuries in the past, and he was thankful to WWE for giving him a great opportunity.
Konnor and Viktor of the Ascension were excellent during their time at NXT. They even dominated the tag division in that brand and won the title before making it to the main roster.
Despite a quality push from WWE early on with several promos, things never clicked for the pair in the main brands.
Viktor and Konnor were great as a pair, and it will be interesting to see if they continue working together after their release.
Konnor didn’t say anything about his release except liking a few tweets about his departure, but Viktor had a funny take on him given his freedom.
It will be interesting to see what happens next for the four released stars. Harper can still do a great job as a singles wrestler while the Ascension are a quality tag team.
AEW could be a serious option but the lure of wresting in Japan and for other independent circuits cannot be ruled out.
Out of the quartet, Harper is the biggest loss due to his talent. However, WWE barely used that in recent months, and it is for the best that he was allowed to leave.
