Are WWE and EA Sports gearing up for a future partnership?
It is no secret that WWE 2K20 was hardly well-received by the fans. The video game was slated for being full of bugs and glitches and attracted widespread criticism from all quarters.
Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch were the cover stars for WWE 2K20 but that wasn’t enough to save the game.
The switch from Yukes to Visual Concepts for WWE 2K20 hardly worked out well. So much so that, WWE 2K decided to shelve plans for releasing WWE 2K21 this year.
Instead, a new video game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be replacing it in the coming months.
And now, rumors are swirling that WWE could be set to team up with EA Sports, replacing WWE 2K for the wrestling promotion’s next video game line.
The story was first reported by Wrestling Planet, who claimed that EA Sports are looking to hire an assistant producer, with the following requirements:
The usage of WWE in the job requirement posted set the rumor mill buzzing with reports that EA will now be developing a WWE game in the coming months.
However, it turned out to be misleading, as WWE posted in the job requirement reportedly stood for World Web Editor.
That would be great news for WWE game fans, to be honest. If EA Sports get involved in the WWE games, it might turn out to be FIFA-esque.
For those not in the know, FIFA is one of the biggest games for EA Sports with almost 30% of their revenue coming from the series.
However, that has seen the developers not care about the game as a whole but focus on one mode only, Ultimate Team.
This is basically a mode where players open packs to get the best players and to build teams. However, packs cost different amounts of FIFA coins which can be won in-game. It is easier to buy FIFA points, and this is where EA makes a ton of money.
This ability to pay and open packs is an issue for many as it reduces skill and makes it a pay to win show.
While 2K sports have done that with their WWE and NBA games, EA taking over the WWE games would have followed a worse route.
FIFA has been hurt a lot with its poor gameplay, something that we have seen with WWE 2K20, but at least WWE is trying to fix that issue and even cancelled their next iteration of the game.
Hopefully, they stay away from EA Sports and provide us with a quality WWE game soon.
