Edge showed off his other side as he turned heel and attacked Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns at Fastlane
Edge seemingly turned heel at Fastlane as he attacked both Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan.
The Rated-R Superstar was the special enforcer for this clash and he lost his cool after being attacked by Jey Uso and then hit by Bryan, inadvertently.
Beth Phoenix tried to bring up why Edge went heel but there is more to all this. Rumours suggested that the finish ensured that Bryan was included in the WrestleMania 37 main event.
Reigns vs Edge was the match for the Universal title. However, Bryan seemed set to win the title before Edge attacked him and well, the former champion seems set to be inserted and the title match will become a triple threat one.
Edge turning heel is also big WWE news given that he was a face since his return. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio explained why this might have happened and it all came from Vince McMahon (h/t Wrestling Edge):
“I thought that it was because they were afraid that Roman Reigns was going to get cheered over Edge and f*ck up the match, but in fact, that isn’t the reason. I thought for sure that was the reason. That’s not the reason.
“I think Vince McMahon just felt that it’s not what he wanted. It was what he wanted and now it wasn’t what he wanted, so Daniel Bryan is in there and Edge is a heel which is, I guess what he wanted.”
A triple threat match at WrestleMania should be great
Reigns, Edge and Bryan are three of the best in WWE and this should be an excellent clash. Turning Edge heel just before Mania is a little weird given that there was always going to be an odd man in a triple threat clash.
It could not have all faces and all heels, and Reigns was the only heel coming into Mania. However, this turn could still be a great move by WWE.
Edge was an incredible heel during his final days in his first WWE run. He was scheming, cunning and smart to go with his incredible wrestling abilities.
It will be interesting to see how WWE play this all out. They have a couple of weeks or so before WrestleMania to build on this story but with Edge in the centre of it, this could be a home run.
