NXT was the star of the last Survivor Series but is missing from the battle in the 2020 edition

WWE seem to have made a decision on which brands will feature at Survivor Series 2020 and it doesn’t feature NXT.

While NXT’s colour was shown during Hell in a Cell with blue and red, the colours of SmackDown and Raw, respectively.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) have reported why the Black and Gold brand will not feature at Survivor Series next month.

There are two reasons given for this decision from the WWE board. The first is that Vince McMahon doesn’t want the three brands mixing to avoid a Covid-19 breakout.

Raw and SmackDown have always fought each other at Survivor Series and they need to feature again. However, NXT was only brought in last year, and this would ensure some of the NXT stars remain safe during all this.

The second reason is that WWE doesn’t want to portray NXT on the same level as Raw and SmackDown.

NXT was a developmental circuit before getting rebranded but still has some of the best matches in WWE.

However, they want to show NXT below Raw and SmackDown, and that is one reason why none of the NXT stars featured in the 2020 WWE Draft too.

A missed chance or sense prevails?

The first reason makes sense given that NXT’s shows have been broadcast from the Full Sail and not from the Amway Center like Raw, SmackDown and the other PPVs.

However, the second reason is a bit baffling as NXT was brought onto Survivor Series 2019 and left a huge impression.

They have some huge names on the roster such as Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley, and it was fun seeing the NXT stars do their bit at the last Survivor Series PPV.

Protecting the stars from Covid-19 is important, given that WWE had an outbreak in the past, but seeing NXT as the lesser brand certainly isn’t right.
