WWE are suing their rivals, AEW, over a special by the new wrestling promotion

AEW surprised the world on this past Monday night by bringing back one of the old-versioned PPV, however, the WWE could be suing them (h/t Ringside News)

They confirmed that the company would host a nine-day event in 2020 mid-January called Bash at the Beach, comprising of two episodes of AEW Dynamite and Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea: Part Deux wrestling cruise.

This took some of the pro-wrestling fans by shock as Bash at the Beach was one of the original PPVs of WCW’s annual schedule in the 1990s.

It was later overtaken up by WWE when Vince McMahon bought WCW’s assets back in the early 2000s.

Now speculations are going around that WWE will take legal actions towards the All Elite Wrestling promotion over trademark issues.

This rival brand set up by Tony Khan and Cody Rhodes has become a massive headache for the biggest pro-wrestling banner owned by the McMahons.

So they won’t be leaving an opportunity to embarrass the newly set up company.

However, AEW owner Tony Khan claimed that the copyright issues did not even exist over Bash at the Beach event.

Copyright lapsed earlier

As explained in an interview with Wrestling Inc. this week, Khan mentioned that the copyright had quietly lapsed as Cody had the chance to apply for it,

“Cody went on a trademark binge one night and he texted me the next day like, ‘Conrad and I were up all night trademarking stuff.’ And I was like, ‘What? Okay!’

“One of the things that came out of it was Bash at the Beach, lo and behold. So, when he said that we thought of a way we could use it at some point.”

Later, Cody Rhodes took social media to address the situation and indicated that he has to visit the court, soon.

Cody said that he needs to go shopping for a new suit as it sounds a company (read WWE) will soon drag him to court in the near future. He also posted a “Welcome to Pettyville” GIF alongside the prediction.

As of now, there is no official petition over the matter. However, WWE might just be contemplating the potential legal issues with advocates before pushing ahead.

In case you don’t know, Bash at the Beach took place for the first time in 1994 featuring a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan. It continued till 2000 after WWE swallowed WCW.
