The Shield was a popular faction involving Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose. They were known for surrounding their opponents and beating them to a pulp before driving them through the announce desk courtesy of a Shield Bomb. What are the chances of a Shield reunion?

Where are the three individuals of the Shield now?

  • Roman ReignsRoman Reigns is currently signed to WWE and till now it is safe to say that he has achieved the most among the three members. We should put it a bit differently. The Tribal Chief has been booked and pushed better than his two friends. He is a 4-time WWE Champion (World Heavyweight) Champion and a two-time Universal Champion. Reigns is also a former Intercontinental and United States Champion on one occasion each. The Head of the Table has also been a Tag Team Champion once with Seth Rollins. Reigns are the current WWE Universal Champion.
  • Seth Rollins – The Architect Seth Rollins is currently part of WWE’s RAW brand. He is involved in a feud with Cody Rhodes and these two will face each other at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Rollins is a former 2-time WWE Champion and a 2-time Universal Champion. He also won the Intercontinental Championship on a couple of occasions. The 36-year-old Rollins is also a former United States Champion. Rollins is also very successful in the tag team circuit having won the WWE (RAW) Tag Team Championship six times. The Visionary is also the first-ever NXT Champion.
  • Dean Ambrose AKA Jon Moxley – Dean Ambrose was the first Shield member to hold an individual title on the main roster. However, he was a victim of terrible booking in WWE and this forced him to make the shift to AEW. In AEW, he wrestles under the ring name Jon Moxley. He is currently involved in a popular faction known as Blackpool Combat Club which has Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan while in WWE), and Wheeler Yuta. The faction is managed by William Regal. In AEW, Moxley won the AEW World Championship on one occasion. In WWE, he became the WWE Champion only once. He won the Intercontinental Championship thrice and the United States Championship once. The 36-year-old is also a former 2-time RAW Tag Team Champion and both times his partner was Seth Rollins.

2 reasons why we may see a Shield Reunion in the future

The Friendship

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose consider each other brothers. They continue to remain in touch and follow each other’s journey. Maybe not immediately but in due course of time, they might want to wrestle together once again. Their chemistry was immaculate and whenever they competed or attacked as a team, they were all on the same page. Before Dean Ambrose left WWE, the trio did the Shield gesture together on an episode of RAW and that was a great way to bid goodbye to the Lunatic Fringe. Reigns and Rollins are still in WWE but they rarely wrestle together nowadays. Rollins did fight Reigns a few months back but the latter picked up the victory. Moxley plies his trade in AEW and the schedules are quite different so they hardly get time to meet each other in person.

Once upon a time, they used to stay on the road together throughout the year traveling from one arena to another. Current AEW Superstar Adam Cole mentioned that while he was working in WWE, he could hardly meet his partner Britt Baker, who was working in AEW. Now, they are both in AEW. Somewhere down the line, the three friends might decide to get back together and put on the black vests and decimate opponents.

The Business Angle

The shield was the most popular faction in recent times. Many compared them to the likes of nWo, D-Generation X, Evolution, and more. They began as heels but slowly, fans connected with them and they became fan favorites. The crowd erupted when their entrance music hit.

Wrestling promotions will always be on the lookout to sign the trio and perform a Shield reunion. From a business angle, it would certainly be a huge move as fans will be eager to watch their favorite faction once again.

2 reasons why we may not see a Shield Reunion in the future

Dean Ambrose’s reason for quitting WWE

Dean Ambrose explained why he decided to quit WWE on Chris Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast in 2019. Ambrose revealed that he had decided to quit the company after the Chairman and CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon forced him to deliver a promo on RAW where his character would get inoculated from various diseases out of fear of catching a virus from the fans. Ambrose felt that this segment had damaged his character beyond repair. He left WWE citing mental exhaustion after explaining to McMahon for six years that his ideas for the character were “stupid”.

We have learned over the years how Vince McMahon wants to run things his way in WWE and seldom budges from his standpoint. Given that Amrose left WWE with such a bad taste in the mouth, it might be difficult to even imagine him coming back to the company.

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins might not leave WWE

Now you might ask why should he come back to WWE when Reigns and Rollins can also make the switch and they can all wrestle in a different promotion. It is very unlikely that Reigns would leave WWE for another wrestling promotion. He is the blue-eyed boy of Vince McMahon and the company has treated him quite well. He has been projected as the face of WWE and there are reports that he will face a stalwart in The Rock at WrestleMania 39.

I do not think Reigns would get anything extra by leaving WWE. For Rollins, the decision to leave WWE might be a tad easier but we have to remember that his wife is Becky Lynch and they have a little daughter.

Wrestling in different promotions would cause the same problem that Cole faced during his time in WWE. Will Rollins still be inclined to make the move? We don’t think so. I must add that I would love to be proved wrong as it’s a dream for the majority of the pro-wrestling fans. Can we witness again a Shield reunion? Only time shall tell.
