WWE SmackDown results and grades: SmackDown was coming off a shock win for Jey Uso as he faced his cousin, Roman Reigns, for the Universal title at Clash of Champions.
There was also going to be a new friend appearing on the Firefly Fun House. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross were also going to speak up but we start this week’s WWE SmackDown results and grades piece with Uso and Reigns.
Reigns and Paul Heyman came out as they spoke about Uso getting his big chance. Uso came out and thanked Heyman for getting him to replace the injured Big E.
However, Reigns was the one who wanted Uso in the Fatal 4-way. Reigns claimed Uso deserved his shot at the main event but promised to destroy him like he would do when they were kids.
Baron Corbin and Sheamus were upset at this nepotism from Reigns and a tag match was set up later in the evening.
Grade A
This was a great segment as it showed that Reigns is the one pulling the strings and making big decisions.
His banter with Uso was great and it will be interesting to see how Reigns does in the coming months.
Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles clashed for the Intercontinental title. Hardy won the title from Styles recently and was keen on keeping it.
However, former IC champion, Sami Zayn, attacked both stars to cause a DQ. Hardy also collapsed later on due to dehydration but was able to brawl with Zayn in the doctor’s chambers.
Grade B
This was a great match between two of the best workers in the business. However, Zayn being the heel in all this should set up a brilliant triple threat match between the trio.
Lucha House Party faced off against tag champions Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. However, the Street Profits came on the big screen and distracted the champions, which allowed LHP to get the win.
LHP beats Cesaro and Nakamura
Grade C
There was a chance to show how good the LHP are against one of the best tag teams in the world. However, WWE decided to go with the distraction angle to give LHP a win.
A week after Bayley sent Sasha Banks to the hospital, the Role Model opened up on her actions.
Bayley claimed she turned on Banks before she would have done the same, and she was using the Boss.
Bayley also attacked Nikki Cross with a chair while leaving the ring as Cross prepared for her match.
Grade A
Bayley turning heel before Banks was a great move and her explanation for her actions were perfect too. It will be interesting to see when Banks returns but she will take Bayley out for sure.
Alexa Bliss, Cross, Tamina and Lacey Evans faced off in a match to decide Bayley’s next rival.
There were questions about how Bliss was after her meetings with The Fiend and she even used Sister Abigail on Cross.
Bliss then left the match and Cross was able to get the win. WWE also showed off the mystery female from last week but didn’t give much away.
Cross wins Fatal 4-way
Grade B
Bliss seems set to join Bray Wyatt and it will be interesting to see how this goes. Cross winning the match is also great for her career and she should put up another great battle against Bayley.
Otis took on John Morrison a week after they stole his briefcase but he kept the title shot. The Miz stole Otis’ lunch box thinking that had the MITB but that led to Morrison losing the match.
However, there was an apple core in the box as Otis kept the contract.
Otis beats Morrison
Grade D
This was another wasted segment for Otis and WWE needs to take the blame for that. Ever since he won the MITB match, he has been turned into a joke and hopefully, WWE can turn things around for him,
Jey and Reigns teamed up to face Sheamus and Corbin in the main event. However, before all this Bray Wyatt showed off the newest member of the Firefly Fun House. Pasquale the Parrott was supposed to be the one but he seemed to have died in all this.
Vince McMahon’s puppet appeared next and he brought out Wobbly Walrus, who seemed to be a take on Paul Heyman.
Uso was in a handicap match was Reigns never showed up. However, the Big Dog’s music hit later on and that distracted Uso enough for him to get control of the match.
Reigns then came down to tag himself in and get the win.
Reigns and Uso win
Grade A
The match wasn’t all that great but Reigns playing the perfect heel was. He allowed his cousin/rival to get beat up but came out to pick up the win and get the credit for saving him too.
Reigns as a heel is starring and WWE might have hit the ball out of the park with this.
