WWE SmackDown Results and Grades: SmackDown was to crown a new WWE Intercontinental champion on this week’s show.
Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles faced off in the final of the tournament while there were some other big moments too.
Jeff Hardy and Sheamus are to meet at Backlash and here are the results and grades from this week’s WWE SmackDown.
Sheamus wanted Hardy to go through a urine test before signing a contract for their match at Backlash. However, Hardy threw the urine on Sheamus after taking the test and left the ring with the Celtic Warrior covered in urine.
The doctor, later on, confirmed that Hardy was negative for any substances too.
Grade B
While this storyline felt forced, getting Hardy a positive vibe after a couple of weeks was great. He should be the favourite to win the clash, and it should be a good match at Backlash.
The New Day came out to face Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title match. The champions decided to take a new in support of the Black Lives Matter protest but it was Nakamura who got the win.
Nakamura and Cesaro beat the New Day
Grade B
WWE could be teasing a rivalry with Cesaro and Nakamura challenging for the titles. The pair getting the win should mean something, and New Day do need someone to challenge them.
Styles vs Bryan took place after a segment which saw Otis and Tucker preparing for their clash. Hardy and Sheamus were also brawling prior to this, however, the match was a classic.
Both stars had close calls as they put up a wrestling clinic. However, it was Styles that picked up the win via a Phenomenal Forearm.
Styles beats Bryan
Grade A
This is what wrestling is all about. Two of the best putting on a show and this was only hurt by the lack of fans in the arena.
Bryan also deserved to win the title and it will be interesting to see what happens next with him.
Sasha Banks and Bayley came out to celebrate their title win but were greeted with boos from the PC athletes.
However, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross came out to rain on their parade. The IIconics were seen on the big screen as they reminded the two teams that they will also feature in the match for the titles at Backlash.
Cross and Bliss remained standing tall as Bayley and Banks were thrown out of the ring.
Grade C
This didn’t really make a lot of sense and it wasn’t a great segment either. A triple threat match should be good at Backlash, but this segment didn’t help any of the three teams.
Otis and Tucker teamed up with Braun Strowman as they face Dolph Ziggler, The Miz and John Morrison.
Otis left his teammates when Baron Corbin came across Mandy Rose at Backstage. That gave the heels the advantage, however, Otis returned and helped Strowman pick up the win.
Otis, Tucker and Strowman beat Ziggler, Miz and Morrison
Grade B
It was great seeing Tucker return to action after being out for a while. Otis, on his own, is still fun but thankfully WWE hasn’t forgotten about his teammate.
Strowman still got the win over Miz and Morrison, and it seems set that he will keep his title at Backlash.
