WWE SmackDown Results and Grades 14 August 2020: A huge surprise for SummerSlam

Published by

WWE SmackDown Results and Grades: Bayley was to learn who her challenger for the SmackDown Women’s title at SummerSlam would be after a huge triple brand battle royal.

Braun Strowman and The Fiend were to meet on the show again while WWE had taken extra precautions with additional security to deal with Retribution.

Big E and John Morrison were beaten by Retribution (WWE)

However, we start off with Big E continuing his singles run in the WWE SmackDown results and grades piece:

Retribution make a mark

Big E and John Morrison were to face but the match didn’t start as Retribution made a return. They attacked the pair and other staff, and instead of five members, there were close to 10 members doing the work.

E then spoke backstage and rallied the troops while also starting a rivalry with Sheamus and Baron Corbin.

Grade C

While E getting another big role on SmackDown was teased, it wasn’t all that great. How has retribution grown over a week? WWE provided more questions than answers via this segment.

The Empress is here

Bayley and Asuka cut a promo regarding their rivals for SummerSlam and introduced each member of the battle royal.

However, they were confused when Asuka’s name came up and the Empress took out the Golden Role Models.

While NXT, SmackDown and Raw stars were present in this clash, it was Asuka who got the win after eliminating Baszler.

Asuka wins Battle Royal

Grade B

Asuka now gets two cracks at titles at SummerSlam as she faces Banks and Bayley. It will be interesting to see how WWE deals with this and if they make it a triple threat match for both titles.

Shorty G in action

Mandy Rose cut a brilliant promo as she challenged Sonya Deville to a hair vs hair match at SummerSlam.

Shorty G was in action next as he took on Sheamus. While G tried to get the better of Sheamus, the Celtic Warrior was the one who got the win thanks to Brogue Kick.

Sheamus beats G

Grade C

Sheamus getting the win was expected but there was no real support from Corbin to help out G after last week’s attack on Riddle.

Metalik vs Nakamura

AJ Styles introduced a new P.I.S.S (Phenomenal Intercontinental Statistic System) to claim that no one deserved a shot at the title.

Jeff Hardy came out and reminded he was never eliminated from the title tournament and the pair clashed.

The next match was Gran Metalik vs Shinsuke Nakamura, with the Lucha House Party keen on winning the tag titles.

It was Metalik who got the win as Kalisto made his WWE return too.

Grade C

Lucha House Party still need some work before they can be considered as tag champ material. However, the Styles vs Hardy segment didn’t cut it either as WWE made a hash of starting this rivalry too.

Bliss and Deville

Alexa Bliss took part in an interview where she was asked about her relationship with Strowman.

She spoke about how she felt close to the Fiend too after two weeks of torment. However, she got emotional when Bliss was reminded that Strowman didn’t have feelings for her.

Deville then accepted the challenge thrown by Rose and was up for the Hair vs Hair match.

Grade A

Bliss was excellent in this promo as it again teased a relationship between Strowman and her. Deville was, as usual, brilliant on the microphone and this could be one of the best matches on SummerSlam.

E vs Morrison, again

E vs Morrison took place again later with some wrestlers surrounding the ring to keep an eye out.

However, this reduced the numbers backstage and Retribution attacked again.

E applied a submission to get the win but he was taken out by Sheamus right after.

E beats Morrison

Grade C

The match could have been a little better but there was too much going on during the clash. Maybe this was the plan from WWE, but at least it sets up E vs Sheamus too.

Strowman is the monster

The champion showed off a new haircut and growled about as he wanted the Fiend to be in the ring. Out came Bliss to try and calm him down but Strowman attacked the Goddess in all this.

The Fiend did come out but Strowman vanished from the arena and featured on the big screen before both rivals laughed out loud as the show ended.

Grade A

The Fiend has transformed all of his rivals and Strowman is a monster again. He seemed ready to destroy Bliss and relationships didn’t matter to him any more.

Fiend vs Strowman should be fun and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in all this.
