WWE SmackDown Results and Grades: This was the final show before Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV and there were a couple of big talking points on the show.
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso were to battle for the Universal title, while Bayley was yet to sign her contract to defend the title against Sasha Banks.
However, WWE started off with a surprise as we look into a new tag team in this SmackDown results and grades piece.
Kevin Owens called out Daniel Bryan for his KO Show and spoke about possibly teaming up to charge for the tag titles.
Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode interrupted but were joined by The Street Profits and Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura.
The Profits teamed up with Bryan and KO and got the win in the end.
Profits, Bryan and Owens win
Grade B
Bryan and KO teaming up should be something great, especially given that KO has never won the tag titles.
This was, otherwise, a regular brawl and there was too much going on.
Bianca Belair took on Zelina Vega on SmackDown as the EST of WWE tried to kick-start her career here.
Vega had a few hits before Belair picked up the win with the KOD.
Belair beats Vega
Grade B
Belair seemed to be forgotten since her move to SmackDown but it was a start this week, at least.
Vega vs Belair should be a rivalry to continue especially since there is heat between the pair from Raw.
Shorty G was upset at not getting action and got a match against Lars Sullivan. Gable got a few hits on the big man but it was Sullivan who got the win easily.
G then said he was done with SmackDown, however, he reverted to his Chad Gable name.
Sullivan beats Gable
Grade C
Sullivan is still trying to get the crowd over but this was a decent segment from Gable. Hopefully, WWE does something better with him as he deserves better.
Bayley said she wasn’t happy to come out and speak why she didn’t sign the Hell in a Cell contract.
Banks then came out and attacked Bayley and forced her former best friend to sign the contract.
Grade B
This was an expected segment as WWE had been advertising the match and Bayley had to sign the deal.
Banks does look good in all this and it will be interesting to see how they go about it on Sunday.
Otis was taken to court by the Miz as JBL turned out to be the judge. A lot of stars such as Asuka, Tucker and others spoke in the court.
The Miz then offered JBL a bribe and the court ruled in favour of Miz.
Otis now has to defend his MITB contract against Miz at Hell in a Cell.
Grade B
This would have been a higher grade had WWE not wasted Otis MITB contract. Why did they give him the contract if they didn’t him to win it?
This was still a fun segment and Hell in a Cell needed another match for sure.
Seth Rollins took on Murphy and the Messiah made a lot of fun of his former disciple.
Aalyah was watching backstage while Rey and Dominik Mysterio were also there. In a tough table, it was Rollins who got the win and he was attacking Murphy with a stick after the match.
Aalyah came out to try and stop him before Dominik and Rey also made the save.
Rollins beats Murphy
Grade B
The match between Rollins and Murphy was a great one and credit has to be given to the pair.
The story of Aalyah and Murphy doesn’t click so much but WWE seem to be sticking with this for a while.
Jimmy Uso tricked Roman Reigns as he appeared backstage before Jey got the better of his cousin and attacked him.
The returning Jimmy then joined his brother to celebrate but Reigns came back charging. He told Jey that he would have to accept Reigns as the Tribal Chief on Sunday or the Usos would be out of the Anoa’i family.
Jey was hanging on the cage as the show ended.
Grade A
Using Jimmy was a great move by WWE but Reigns still came out on top in all this. The Hell in a Cell show should be great, especially with the Tribal Chief in top form.
