WWE SmackDown Results and Grades: There was a lot of action on this week’s SmackDown with Sasha Banks and Bayley fighting for the Women’s tag titles.
Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles were to meet before their clash for the Intercontinental Championship. However, we start off with Jeff Hardy as we share the results and grades from this WWE SmackDown episode.
Hardy was arrested and then released last week after attacking Elias. He came out to open the show and said someone had knocked him out before he was arrested. A witness claimed someone with red hair and a red beard attacked Elias, and Hardy pointed it to Sheamus.
The Celtic Warrior came out and destroyed Hardy for bringing up all this.
Grade B
This was an expected opening and a decent way to continue the Hardy-Sheamus rivalry. However, using Hardy’s substance abuse as part of a storyline isn’t all that great.
Mandy Rose and Otis were playing with Corbin’s crown before the clash, and it was Otis who got the win via DQ.
Corbin used a chair on Otis to cause the DQ, but it was Otis who got the last laugh by hitting his finisher.
Otis beats Corbin
Grade B
The finish for the match wasn’t needed as Otis could have picked up a clean win, but there was no real backstory to this clash apart from Otis and Rose having fun with Corbin. Sometimes, such mini-angles work.
Lacey Evans vs Sonya Deville seems to be the new rivalry in the women’s division. Deville seemed to pick up the win after battering Evans.
However, Rose featured on the Titantron to distract Deville as Evans got the win.
Evans beats Deville
Grade C
The match was a decent one but bringing Rose back into the rivalry wasn’t really needed. Rose needs to appear on TV regularly, and that could be one reason for all this taking place.
Styles and Bryan came out for an interview segment with Renee Young. The pair traded barbs before Styles called out Drew Gulak for a fight.
Gulak and Styles put on a great show, and it was Gulak who picked up the surprise win with a cover in the end.
Gulak beats Styles
Grade B
It was great seeing Gulak get a win, even a surprise one, as he has often lost out in recent weeks. Styles vs Gulak was great to see as two of the best took on each other.
Shorty G was attacked by Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura before the New Day came to save him.
The trio teamed up to face the heels and it was the newly formed trio who picked up the win.
New Day and Shorty G beat Nakamura, Rawley and Cesaro
Grade B
The match gave Rawley a chance to shine and even G did well. However, this was another clash that had no story behind it and it felt a little forced, despite the quality action in the ring.
This clash took place after Braun Strowman went on a rampage after being the victim of some pranks by Miz and Morrison.
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross were the champs coming in but took on Bayley and Banks. It was the pairing of Banks and Bayley that picked up the win, despite rumblings of tension between the best friends.
Banks and Bayley beat Bliss and Cross
Grade B
This should lead to more tension between Banks and Bayley as the pair has some miscommunications leading to the win.
Bliss and Cross losing the titles on SmackDown was a surprise, however, WWE seems to be building something bigger.
