WWE SmackDown Results and Grades: WWE Extreme Rules: The Horror Show is just a week away, and SmackDown had some work to do in terms of their storylines.
We were to get a clash between Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro taking on the New Day as the main event with the tag titles on the line.
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross were also going to pair up. However, we start with Jeff Hardy in this WWE SmackDown results and grades piece:
The Miz and John Morrison started off the show with Jeff Hardy coming on. The Miz claimed that Hardy needed to get the win over Sheamus after last week’s alcohol-based segment. However, a match between Miz and Hardy was set up.
Hardy started off well before Miz completely dominated the match. Hardy then made a comeback before Sheamus interfered. The Charismatic Enigma was able to reverse a pin and get the win.
Hardy beats Miz
Grade C
Miz and Morrison on the microphone were the saving grace in the opening segment as they do a great job as funny heels.
The match was also not needed and Hardy struggling to get the win made no sense given how much attention has been given to him.
Bayley and Sasha Banks were in action against Bliss and Cross. The tag champs made their entrance before Cross jumped them and Bliss made the save.
The match started with the champs taking on Cross. However, Bliss was around to ensure her tag partner wasn’t taken apart.
For all her enthusiasm, Cross couldn’t get the win as she was pinned.
Banks and Bayley beat Cross and Bliss
Grade B
Cross and Bliss seem set to snatch the titles away at Extreme Rules, however, they have to be careful of being overenthusiastic.
Credit goes to Bayley and Banks, they have been incredible on all three brands and put on another great showing again.
WWE showed off a match between Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman from Money in the Bank 2020 as they continued building up that rivalry.
We then had an impromptu Karaoke Showdown between Dana Brooke, Naomi, Tamina and Lacey Evans.
Naomi won the contest but was attacked by Evans and a match was set up between them. However, Brooke and Tamina interrupted this clash and it ended in a no contest.
Grade E
This was just a filler segment and it helped none of the stars in the ring.
Nakamura and Cesaro isolated Kofi Kingston first and ensured that Big E wasn’t around to get the tag easily.
Big E then went berserk and it led to a massive clash with the referee having to call another no contest.
Nakamura and Cesaro destroyed the champions after that and even used a table.
Grade B
Nakamura and Cesaro seem to have the New Day’s number. The champions cannot get anything over Nakamura and Cesaro and it will be interesting to see how things take place when they meet again.
