WWE SmackDown results, winners, grades and reaction 27 March 2020: This week’s SmackDown saw the return of Bray Wyatt as he was going to speak out ahead of WWE WrestleMania 36.
There were some big matches featuring Drew Gulak and Alexa Bliss. Gulak’s one, in particular, had WrestleMania 36 implications for Daniel Bryan while Bliss was fighting against Asuka.
As per the norm these days, the event was broadcast from the Performance Center with no fans in the stadium.
Sasha Banks was shocked at being involved in the six-pack challenge for Bayley’s title at WrestleMania 36.
However, the best friends opened SmackDown with a vote of confidence regarding their friendship. Lacey Evans interrupted the meeting with Naomi joining soon. However, the real kicker was seeing Tamina also come in.
She didn’t waste time before destroying Evans and Naomi. Banks and Bayley picked up the pieces but ran away when Tamina gave them a stern look in the ring.
Grade B
The only saving grace for the segment was showing how dominant Tamina can be. It is a shame she hasn’t been seen much since the Royal Rumble. This wasn’t the greatest opening segment and it will be interesting to see if Tamina actually wins the title on WrestleMania.
Handing his chance of the Intercontinental Title to Gulak was a risky and bold move by Bryan. Gulak and Bryan have been great as a pair and it was time to see how much trust there was between them.
Gulak faced off against Shinsuke Nakamura, for the first time ever.
The match was a hard-hitting affair with both stars going back and forth. It seemed Nakamura was ready to hit the Kinshasa but Bryan helped Gulak evade the finisher.
That allowed Gulak to pin Nakamura and hand Bryan a chance at WM, while Sami Zayn protested against Bryan’s interference to the referee.
Gulak beats Nakamura
Grade B
The result was expected given that WM needs a few quality matches and we should see that between Zayn and Bryan.
It is great seeing the Bryan and Gulak partnership flourish too, and hopefully, better things are to come for them.
The wrestling has been reduced a bit in recent weeks on WWE shows, but one of the most intriguing storylines has involved Dolph Ziggler, Otis and Mandy Rose.
Ziggler was on the phone before Tucker and Otis barged in. The Showoff put down a challenge ahead of WrestleMania to Otis, and was later seen speaking with Sonya Deville too.
Rose also confronted Ziggler for being a bully to Otis but the couple left as Rose didn’t want to be at stake during their WM match.
On the other side, the rivalry between Elias and King Corbin isn’t ending anytime soon. Elias performed a song for the King but it was far from flattering.
Corbin got enraged, attacked Elias, and sent him flying down to the floor. Michael Cole then later confirmed that Elias had been sent to a hospital and his match at WrestleMania was in doubt.
Grade B
The storylines are progressing as expected and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the final episode of SmackDown next week.
Asuka had attacked Alexa Bliss a few weeks ago, and this rivalry has also been simmering. Nikki Cross was cheering Bliss on at the commentary table.
This was another hard-hitting match with two of the best performers in WWE. It seemed that Asuka was going to pick up the win, but Bliss got out of an Asuka Lock to give her the victory.
Bliss beats Asuka
Grade B
This was another expected result though Asuka beating Bliss would have worked too. Either way, it seems that Asuka and Kairi Sane will face Bliss and Cross while defending their tag titles at WrestleMania.
Bray Wyatt came out with another dark and fun Firefly Fun House segment. The former champion did his usual bit of destroying Ramblin’ Rabbit in a blender and went on to say that John Cena didn’t deserve a normal match.
The Fiend challenged Cena to a Firefly Fun House match and drank the smoothie he made in the blender to end the segment.
Grade A
Wyatt’s segments are possibly the best in WWE at the moment, but the intriguing part was the Firefly Fun House match.
It probably won’t take place in the ring and be a cinematic one, similar to what the earlier gimmicks of Bray Wyatt had, especially with Randy Orton.
The New Day and The Usos came out to fight for a place at WrestleMania. Miz and Morrison were sitting by ringside and on commentary duty knowing that the winners would take them on for their tag belts at WM.
The match itself was back and forth before the Miz and Morrison interrupted. They hit out at both sets of stars to ensure a No Contest.
However, that backfired as Cole announced that the titles would now be defended in a triple-threat ladder match.
Miz and Morrison were also laid out at the end of SmackDown with the show ending on a bang.
No Contest
Grade B
This was another attempt to stack the WrestleMania 36 card and a ladder match for the tag titles will be fun.
The Usos and The New Day have great chemistry together, and it will be interesting to see what Miz and Morrison can do to try and keep their titles.
