WWE SmackDown results, winners, grades and reaction: The Fiend and The Usos were in action in this week’s episode
WWE SmackDown results, winners, grades and reaction: The first SmackDown of 2020 had some hits and misses.
There was some good news as The Fiend was seen but the evening started with a huge tag team.
SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley and her partner Sasha Banks continued taunting Lacey Evans and her daughter on this week’s show.
That, obviously, would not sit well with Evans and she came out with Dana Brooke. However, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross also wanted some tag team action and a triple threat match was setup.
Bayley and Banks did a great job together but in the end, it was Evans who hit The Boss with The Woman’s Right before Brooke used a senton bomb to pick up the win.
Evans & Brooke beat Banks & Bayley and Bliss & Cross
Grade B
A good match to highlight the great chemistry between Banks and Bayley. The faces won and the storyline with Brooke and Evans will continue for a while.
A fighting return to SmackDown
Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson made fun of Shorty G in the back, and a match was set up.
It was G against Wilder with Dawson on commentary and it was the member of the Revival who dominated the match by using every trick in the book.
However, Chad Gable (G) was able to catch Wilder with an ankle lock to pick up the win. Dawson then entered to beat up G but Sheamus made his return to SmackDown.
The Revival ran after seeing the Fighting Irishman with Gable eating a Brogue Kick.
Gable beats Wilder
Grade A
It was great seeing Gable picking up a singles win and there could something for him in the coming months.
The main aspect of this was seeing Sheamus back in action, and hopefully, he has a match next week.
Trouble in paradise
The Miz was seen backstage and wasn’t happy as the New Day decided to cheer him up.
The A-Lister lost the triple threat match to face The Fiend last week, and tossed away some pancakes from the New Day.
That setup a match between Kofi Kingston and The Miz. The A-Lister initially had Kofi on the ropes but the former champion hit back and picked up the win via a cradle.
The Miz then tried to attack Kofi but Big E came to the rescue. Things took another turn when the A-Lister was upset with the WWE Universe as they chanted “You suck”.
Kingston beats Miz
Grade B
The match felt a little rushed given that both of these superstars have been champions in the past.
Miz turning heel again is a little weird given the push he was getting, but there was more to come.
John Morrison was also seen backstage and told Cathy Kelly that The Miz wasn’t going to speak at the time.
It was great to see Morrison back too and a tag team with The Miz should be the best way to go forward.
Otis in action
Drew Gulak was back with one of his great PowerPoint and the subject was Otis.
Gulak claimed that Mandy Rose would never date someone like Otis and had a huge presentation for that.
Fortunately, Otis was on form and picked up the win after manhandling Gulak.
Otis beats Gulak
Grade C
Rose was also seen backstage speaking with Dolph Ziggler and wanted him to apologise to Otis for ruining his cake from last week.
Gulak needs more time on the air as he is one of the most entertaining characters in the business.
Otis and Rose could be another love affair that goes horribly wrong in WWE, hopefully, it is better than the Lana-Rusev-Lashley-Morgan debacle.
The Monster vs The Cyborg
This was another chance for Braun Strowman to show how good he is but Cesaro put up his A-Game against the Monster Among Men.
The Swiss star cut down the Monster down with some great moves and Sami Zayn also played a role in distracting Strowman.
In the end, Strowman powered through for the win and Shinsuke Nakamura attacked him after the match.
Strowman beats Cesaro
Grade B
Cesaro looked good in the match and would be a great rival for Strowman. However, we will see more of Nakamura and the Monster after the Japanese star’s post-match attack.
Bryan and Reigns team up
Daniel Bryan vowed to beat The Fiend at the Rumble while Roman Reigns claimed he would win the Royal Rumble and face the new champion at WrestleMania.
The pair teamed up to face Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin, and the newly formed team actually did well early on.
Corbin did a lot to save Ziggler from the LeBelle lock and ate a spear for his troubles, but the madness was only beginning.
The Fiend came out and attacked Bryan with the Mandible Claw and smashed his challenger into the barricade.
The champion then vanished just as quickly as he appeared and that left Reigns at a disadvantage. Corbin and Ziggler wanted to humiliate the Big Dog by handcuffing him again, but The Usos came out to make the save.
Bryan and Reigns beat Ziggler and Corbin by DQ
Grade B
The match was great and it was a surprise how well Reigns and Bryan worked as a team. Wyatt coming in and making a mess was expected and the return of the Usos should be great for SmackDown.
