Sonya Deville came out as the first-ever openly gay female WWE star way back in 2015. She was a part of the WWE series Tough Enough. She caught the attention of everyone after the announcement and even admitted that she thought that this decision would affect her career.
In 2021 Deville is an active patron for the LGBT+ organisation and help others in accepting their own sexual identity without any judgement.
Deville even talked about this with (H/t Women’s Health).
“I really just want to be a voice for the community in sports – specifically in the WWE,” Deville said. “I want to let people know that their sexuality doesn’t define them and how they identify doesn’t define them. And I’m a perfect example of it.”
Sonya had a relationship with Arianna Johnson, and their relationship was documented throughout her time on Total Divas.
She was dating Zahra Schreiber before that, as she made a few appearances on NXT. However, the couple broke up in 2016. Schreiber even dated Seth Rolins for a while back in 2015.
Deville sought inspiration from MMA stars like Gina Carano and claimed she owed a lot to her for her massive success in WWE.
Sonya mentioned that things have become easier after her coming out as a gay wrestler.
She was quoted saying, “I said, ‘Yeah, I have a girlfriend.’ Everyone started laughing with me and smiling—they could tell I had never said that out loud before. It was a nerve-racking moment that turned out to be an amazing and pivotal moment in my life.”
However, it seems that the WWE star is not in a relationship currently as there is no real news available about it right now.
