WWE SummerSlam 2020 Results and Grades: Most shocking return in SummerSlam history?

Published by

WWE SummerSlam 2020 Results and Grades: The Fiend vs Braun Strowman was the main event for this year’s WWE SummerSlam.

However, there were other big talking points with Asuka getting a shot at the Raw and SmackDown Women’s title on the same night.

There was a shocking return after the main event too as The Fiend and Strowman clashed.

Apollo Crews faced MVP at SummerSlam (WWE)

The Raw Tag Titles were also on the line but we start off with another title match as we share the results and grades for WWE SummerSlam.

Crews vs MVP

Apollo Crews vs MVP was the first match as the US Title was on the line. The match went back and forth before Crews got the win.

Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley then came out to attack the champion, but Crews got away.

Crews beats MVP

Grade C

This was a decent enough match but it could have been much better. Crews keeping his title is good for him and this rivalry should continue for a bit.

Asuka vs Bayley

Asuka got a shot at Bayley’s SmackDown title first. The Japanese star started off hot but Bayley made her way back into the clash.

Sasha Banks watches on during the Asuka vs Bayley clash (WWE)

Sasha Banks distracted Asuka and that allowed Bayley to roll up her opponent for the win. Banks and Bayley then attacked Asuka before the Boss’ match.

Bayley beats Asuka

Grade B

Asuka tried her best to get the gold but the distraction cost her a lot. It was also smart of Banks and Bayley to beat down on Asuka ahead of the next match to keep an edge.

Raw Tag Team title match

The Street Profits defended their titles against Angel Garza and Andrade in the next match. The match went back and forth but the major moment came when Garza was knocked into Zelina Vega.

This distracted Andrade and allowed the Profits to retain their titles.

Profits beat Andrade and Garza

Grade B

The Profits keeping the titles is good but it also raises questions about Vega’s team’s future. Will Andrade and Garza stay a tag team or split? They have had issues in the past and that could spring up again in the coming weeks.

Loser leaves WWE match

Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville met in a No DQ Loser leaves WWE match. The pair went at it right from the start and they didn’t leave anything in the locker.

Rose had some great hits on Deville but the Pride Fighter also had an answer to all of it. However, Rose hit several knees to the face of her former best friend to get the win. Deville was extremely upset at the loss while Rose celebrated with Otis.

Rose beats Deville

Grade A

Deville needed a bit of a break from WWE and this was perfect. However, it will be interesting to see how WWE deals with Rose now. She doesn’t have a rivalry to deal with after Deville’s storyline exit and that could open a lot of doors for her.

Rollins vs Dominik

Dominik Mysterio came with his father and mother in his first WWE match. Seth Rollins took the mind games to another level as he wore similar clothing to what Rey Mysterio would wear.

The match was a slobber knocker as both stars used a ton of weapons to gain the advantage. Dominik also used some high flying moves but Rollins was on his game.

Murphy interrupted in the clash, Rey Mysterio also saved his son but that wasn’t enough as Rollins picked up the win.

Rollins beats Dominik

Grade A

We had Pat McAfee stun the WWE Universe at TakeOver and Dominik did the same on Sunday. The youngster looked a natural in the ring but credit goes to Rollins too for making him look like a star.

This was an excellent match between the parties and hopefully, we see more of Dominik soon.

Asuka vs Banks

Asuka got a second bite at the gold, this time taking on Banks for the Raw Women’s title. Banks tried to take advantage of the earlier attack as Asuka did look a little weary.

However, Banks was frustrated in the match as she couldn’t put Asuka away. Bayley tried to help her friend but she got knocked down as Asuka got Banks to tap out.

Asuka beats Banks

One of the two Role Models was going to lose and it was surprising seeing Bayley keep her title and The Boss losing hers.

However, the Boss could again turn on Bayley and this loss will put a strain in their relationship.

McIntyre vs Orton

Drew McIntyre defended his WWE title against Randy Orton and it was an incredible clash.

Both men tried their best to get one over their rivals, and Orton used all the tricks in the book to stay in the clash.

He also teased a punt kick but McIntyre was able to avoid it. However, the champ kept his title with a backslide which frustrated Orton.

McIntyre beats Orton

Grade A

The finish keeps the door open for another clash between the pair. Both stars gave it their all and this was one of the best matches of the year.

Strowman vs The Fiend

This was a Falls count anywhere match as Strowman faced off against the Fiend in a bid to keep his title.

The Fiend looked to be unbeatable as he kicked out of chokeslams and other attacks by the champion.

The Fiend then hit a few Sister Abigails on Strowman to win the title. However, Roman Reigns made a shocking return and attacked the two rivals.

Fiend beats Strowman

Grade B

The only reason this got a B was because Reigns made a stellar return to WWE. The match was decent enough but there could have been more to this all.

It will be interesting to see how things develop with Reigns returning to the promotion. He should be in title contention straight ahead.
