Theory Early Life
Theory was born on August 2, 1997, in the Atlanta suburb of McDonough, Georgia. He was into bodybuilding from a young age. His efforts got recognition when he stood first in the NPC Georgia Bodybuilding Championship in 2015, in the teen category. Theory was just 17 during that time.
Theory Personal Life
Alongside bodybuilding, he also loved professional wrestling. Theory is an ardent fan of both John Cena and Rey Mysterio.
Theory Professional Wrestling Career
On May 5, 2016, he made his professional wrestling debut under the ring name Austin Theory. He defeated AR Fox at a WWA4 event to become the WWA4 Heavyweight Champion.
After winning the big prize in WWA, Theory made his debut in Progress Wrestling on April 1, 2017, at a collaboration show between Progress and Evolve. That match involved the likes of Keith Lee, Jason Kincaid, and Blaster McMassive.
Theory plied his trade on several other promotions and achieved a good amount of success before signing with WWE in mid-2019. He honed his skills for a few months at the Performance Center before making his NXT debut on the December 25 episode. He accepted an open challenge for Roderick Strong’s NXT North American Championship but did not succeed in winning the title. Theory’s first victory in NXT came against Joaquin Wilde on January 8, 2020, episode.
First Stint on the Main Roster
Theory appeared on the March 30 episode of RAW as an associate of Zelina Vega. He teamed with Angel Garza and Seth Rollins and defeated the team of Kevin Owens and The Street Profits.
Theory’s WrestleMania debut came in 2020. He teamed with Angel Garza to challenge The Street Profits for the RAW Tag Team Championship. However, the heels could not get the victory.
Theory, eventually, joined Seth Rollins as his disciple. That was short-lived though as he returned back to WWE’s developmental territory, NXT.
Theory’s second stint in NXT, revolved around him helping Johnny Gargano successfully defend the NXT North American Championship. His last match in NXT was on the July 20, 2021, episode against Kyle O’Reilly. Theory had lost that match.
Back to the main roster
Theory was drafted to RAW as a part of the 2021 Draft. He appeared on the October 4 episode of Raw and attacked Jeff Hardy. This was after Hardy had lost a match against Damian Priest. After laying waste to the veteran Hardy, Theory clicked a selfie with him inside the ring.
Theory went on to defeat the likes of Hardy, Rey, and Dominik Mysterio, over the next few weeks. He got into a storyline with Vince McMahon. He admitted that he was the one who stole Cleaopatra’s Egg from Mr. McMahon. The 76-year-old McMahon was impressed and gave Theory a chance to challenge Big E for the WWE Championship. Theory could not capitalize as The New Day member won the match.
McMahon continued to give opportunities to Theory as the youngster was given a spot in the Men’s Royal Rumble match in 2022 and also the Men’s Elimination Chamber match. Theory’s first championship triumph came on the April 18 episode of RAW, when he defeated Finn Balor to become the youngest United States Champion in WWE history.
Theory has defended the title successfully against the likes of Cody Rhodes and Mustafa Ali till now. He is doing quite well, portraying the role of a heel. There are strong speculations that he might have a match down the line against his idol John Cena. However, nothing has been confirmed on the part of WWE as yet. If we eventually get the match, then it could be a treat for the WWE Universe.
