Paige made a huge impact when she made her WWE debut on Raw and won the Divas title in her first match
WWE star Paige will go down as one of the greatest wrestlers in the history of the business. The British star also made a huge impact on her WWE and Raw debut.
It wasn’t all easy for Paige though as she wrestled a lot in the independent circuit in Europe. Saraya-Jade Bevis, now known as Paige, also impressed at Shimmer Women Athletes, which was an American promotion in 2011.
She quickly then signed for WWE’s developmental circuit, Florida Championship Wrestling (after a try out), and initially made her debut with the ring name Saraya.
That was changed to Paige and she grew from strength to strength as FCW was rebranded as NXT.
Doing the business in NXT
Paige made her NXT debut in 2012 and she actually lost her match to Sofia Cortez. However, that was only a minor blot during her time at Full Sail University.
From late 2012, Paige went on a great winning streak and better top stars such as Sasha Banks, Emma and Alicia Fox.
Paige created history in 2013 as she became the first NXT Women’s Champion. The British star defeated Emma in the final of the tournament and she never lost the title.
The 27-year-old had to vacate her title after a reign of 274 days since she was set to make her debut on Raw.
Big impact on Raw
Her big debut on Raw came right after WrestleMania 30. She went out to congratulate AJ Lee on keeping the title, but the champion ended up challenging Paige for a match.
Paige did a great job in the ring, and even with Tamina Snuka beside Lee, it was the Brit that won her debut match on Raw.
She also won the Divas title and became the youngest female to ever hold that belt.
The Brit also created more history by becoming the first to win the Divas title in her debut match and hold the Divas and NXT Women’s titles at the same time.
There was more glory to come but the Brit had to give up her dreams of wrestling.
She has been seriously injured in the past and has been reduced to a role as a manager or a commentator.
Paige was also the Raw GM for a while, but now she is part of WWE Backstage.
The 27-year-old has teased a return to in-ring competition, and it will be interesting to see if she makes a comeback.
Many WWE stars have done the same recently, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Paige is given the all-clear.
