Yao Ming Career
Yao Ming was the 2002, Round 1, 1st overall draft pick by the Houston Rockets. Ming played in the position of Center and he is also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Before entering the NBA, Ming played for the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association. He played for the Sharks from 1997 to 2002. During his time with the Sharks, Ming became the CBA champion (2002), CBA MVP (2001), and CBA Finals MVP (2001).
In the 2002 NBA Draft, Ming was the first overall draft pick by the Houston Rockets. In his rookie season, Ming averaged 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and was consequently named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Ming played for the Rockets till 2011. During his time with the Rockets, Ming was an eight-time NBA All-Star (2003–2009, 2011), two-time All-NBA Second Team (2007, 2009), and three-time All-NBA Third Team (2004, 2006, 2008).
Subsequently, on July 20, 2011, Ming announced his retirement from basketball in a press conference in Shanghai. Further, on September 9, 2016, Ming was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a player.
