Yoshihito Nishioka is a Japanese professional tennis player, currently ranked World No.36 in ATP singles. He is a regular in the men’s circuit and has won two ATP singles titles in his career till date. The 27-year-old is currently the no.1 Japanese tennis player.

Nishioka turned pro in 2014 after a successful tenure in the junior circuit. In the same year, he won the singles gold medal at the Asian Games. In 2016, he got his first major breakthrough and broke into the top 100 of the ATP rankings for the first time ever. His first-ever ATP title came in 2018 at the Shenzhen Open, where he defeated Pierre-Hugues-Herbert in the final. Nishioka got his first win against a top-10 opponent in 2019, when he defeated his ‘hero’ and fellow Japanese player Kei Nishikori. A year later, Nishioka broke into the top 50 of the ATP rankings, in the men’s singles category.

Nishioka got some stellar results in 2022. He became the no.1 ranked Japanese player as well as Asia’s number one. Nishioka reached the final of an ATP 500 event for the first time in his career at the 2022 Citi Open. He lost the final to Nick Kyrgios but his stellar run to the finals propelled him to his career-best ranking of 36. Nishioka will look to take it a step further in 2023.
