“You think f***** LeBron James is gonna drive down the court and not look at the clock” – When a riled up Sean O’Malley questioned Daniel Cormier’s Fight IQ

Published by

Sean O’Malley criticized Daniel Cormier after his TKO of Raulian Paiva on Saturday night, adding to the criticism that has been levelled at him in recent weeks.

Dominick Cruz, a former UFC bantamweight champion, started a kerfuffle by accusing his broadcast partner Daniel Cormier of “not doing the research” before events at UFC 269 fight week in Las Vegas. Sean O’Malley, who paused en route to his post-fight media appearance to congratulate Cruz on winning a unanimous decision on the undercard, has already turned his attention to Cormier.

“I want to praise myself for checking the time against Paiva and realizing how much time was left since certain people, like Daniel Cormier, was like, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s staring at the clock!’ in my last battle against Kris Moutinho. Whoa, buddy, what are you talking about?” O’Malley stated in the T-Mobile Arena backstage.

When a reporter mentioned Cruz’s critique and how it was starting to seem like a theme, O’Malley advised Cormier to “don’t say foolish s***.” He did, however, acknowledge the “hard job” the former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion had at the broadcast desk. I couldn’t perform his duties—sit there and report on so many battles. Yeah, I would seem like a total moron,” O’Malley responded with a chuckle.

Though he is aware that he is not everyone’s cup of tea, the outspoken 27-year-old O’Malley [15-1] increased his winning run to three at the T-Mobile Arena and is set to enter the bantamweight rankings next week.

He said, “I’ve always felt that DC wants me to lose. I might be entirely off base. The last time I spoke with him was recent. He doesn’t even seem to dislike me personally. I’m not sure why he says I look like a young Jon Jones. When commenting, he mentions a few specific things. Maybe I’m just being a jerk and taking it personally. As I stated, commenting is a tough job.”

“I probably wouldn’t be as well-known as I am if everyone simply adored me, ‘How can anyone not love that guy?’ In my opinion, Tai Tuivasa is the only person whom everyone adores. Although I can see why people don’t like me, they watched me tonight. They didn’t shut the TV off or use the restroom. They weren’t likely consuming any food or liquids. They must have been glued to that TV when I was battling.” he concluded.
