The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated new games for 2023, and it will be a big Switch game. Taking us back to the open-world Hyrule we all loved in 2017, this is the long-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild. We will be able to explore islands in the sky and so much more this time around.

During Nintendo Direct September 2022, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom was revealed as a full title for the game after first teased in 2019. Link returned with new weapons and powers, which he’ll need to tackle a new set of dungeons in Breath of the Wild 2. To know more about Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, read this article till the end.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Release Date

On September 12, a Nintendo Direct showcase of September 2022 confirmed the Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom release date. After leaving us speculating for months after a Breath of the Wild 2 delay back in March – leaving the new Zelda game with a vague ‘spring 2023’ release date – Nintendo has finally set this new release date in stone. On May 12 2023, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is on track and ready to go.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Trailers

A total of three trailers have been released for Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In the first trailer, Link and Zelda explore some creepy ruins, before the Hero of Time finds himself battling a glowing magical arm as they explore some creepy ruins.

As part of E3 2021, the second trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was shown, showcasing gameplay for the first time. Link will be able to gain new powers as a result of his new magical arm and the playable area will expand into the sky through this trailer.

Nintendo Direct September 2022 showcased the new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As well as showing off some of the stunning sky vistas we’ll be able to explore, the trailer revealed that the sequel to Breath of the Wild will be officially titled “Tears of the Kingdom” when it launches in May 2023.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Story

In the second trailer, we see a stone wall with multiple carvings, as in the first trailer. The trailer is filled with hints and small details about the game, as usual, leaving plenty of room for all the nerds to analyze it. Often, stone carvings tell a story, just as they do in Breath of the Wild. There is a mysterious figure with an almost animal-like mask in the trailer, surrounded by seven similar symbols resembling water drops.

In practically every Zelda game, the number seven appears again and is always associated with something very significant. These seven symbols could be somehow related to Link’s skills. The Tears of the Kingdom might also be represented by these waterdrop-like emblems.

Since Nintendo didn’t want to spoil too much of the story, the title of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was not revealed. Naturally, this got our minds spinning. The desiccated corpse of Ganon has emerged from beneath Hyrule Castle, and the tendrils of malice appear to be spreading once again as a result of everything we’ve seen in this Breath of the Wild sequel.

Given the prevalence of “Tears” throughout the GameCube adventure, we wonder whether echoes of Zelda: Twilight Princess will play a part here. The new teaser begins with strange Hylian words and drawings, so of course, that has put the Internet into detective overdrive.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay

Playing Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will feature an expansive traversal and combat system that helped define the original Breath of the Wild. The world has been extended into the skies – Link is able to swan dive from dungeons suspended above the clouds and ascend from ground to air with all-new abilities powered by his sword arm, instead of his Sheikah slate.

Link seems to be equipped with a wooden axe, multiple swords, shields, bows and arrows, a wooden axe, multiple swords, multiple shields, and more throughout the three trailers, confirming that the large pool of available weapons (and degradation) will likely return. In addition to the new and returning Sheikah abilities, Tears of the Kingdom also features more open exploration, so it looks like it will build on its predecessors well.
