Zhou Guanyu update: Much to the relief of F1 fans around the world, the Alfa Romeo driver did not suffer any major injuries following his crash at Silverstone.
Following a nasty crash on the T1 of the first lap of the British GP 2022, Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu has provided a positive update on his condition. The Chinese star was inadvertently hit by George Russell’s Mercedes and his Alfa Romeo was flipped upside down and off the track. The car also crashed into the barrier but fortunately, the 23-year-old was unharmed.
The race was immediately red-flagged and marshals quickly gathered onto the scene to check on the driver. While there were no messages from the Alfa Romeo radio team and the driver, fans began to fear the worst during the long wait on Zhou’s condition. But soon after Zhou was removed from the trapped car, he was seen moving around and was quickly stretchered into an ambulance before being taken to a medical centre for evaluation.
Soon after the race began, F1 fans received positive news regarding Zhou Guanyu’s condition. The rookie driver himself took to social media to tweet about his medical state. In his tweet, Zhou claimed that the ‘halo’ on his car saved him.
Zhou did not suffer any serious injury or fractures despite how horrific the accident looked at first glance. In fact, he was also present at the paddock once the race concluded after being released from the medical centre.
