Predicted 4-3-3 Manchester City XI to face Lyon in the Champions League
Manchester City continued their fine run in the Premier League with a 4-0 thrashing of West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s men are in red-hot goalscoring form, having already scored 40 goals in the Premier League.
The Citizens drubbed Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk 6-0 at home before the international break, virtually sealing their qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
City lost their Matchday 1 fixture 2-1 against Lyon at the Etihad as the visitors stole the show with first-half goals from Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir.
Team News
Manchester City will be without the services of Kevin de Bruyne, who suffered an injury to his knee ligament in the Carabao Cup game against Fulham. Bernardo Silva could return, having missed the weekend game due to a minor knock.
Benjamin Mendy has undergone a surgery in his knee and will be back in action next year while Claudio Bravo continues to be on the treatment table to nurse his Achilles tendon injury.
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Pep Guardiola
Predicted XI
1. Ederson Moraes (GK)
He didn’t have too much to do in the last game but has always been a lively presence between the sticks, acting as a sweeper-keeper at times.
2. Kyle Walker (RB)
The Englishman has been good all season and City will be for him to continue his good work down the right.
3. John Stones (CB)
He was rested in the last game to give Nicolas Otamendi a start but the Englishman is expected to return to the line-up for the Champions League tie.
4. Aymeric Laporte (CB)
The Frenchman has established himself as City’s first-choice centre-back this season, putting in multiple solid shifts in the heart of the defence.
5. Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB)
Fabian Delph played the last Premier League game but struggled to cope with the pace of Lyon’s attackers in the 2-1 defeat. Guardiola should hand the Ukrainian a start for this one.
6. Fernandinho (CDM)
He has been the heartbeat of City’s midfield and will have his work cut out against Nabil Fekir and Tanguy Ndombele.
7. David Silva (LAM)
The diminutive Spaniard has arguably been the most creative player for the Citizens for quite a long time and he will need to fire on Tuesday.
8. Ilkay Gundogan (RAM)
The German international started the last game and might start this one as well if Bernardo isn’t fit enough to start.
9. Raheem Sterling (RW)
He was in prime form in the last game against West Ham, registering a goal and a couple of assists.

10. Leroy Sane (LW)
He was the pick of City’s attackers against West Ham, scoring two goals and Guardiola should rely on him to deliver the goods on Tuesday.
11. Sergio Aguero (ST)
The Argentine talisman hasn’t been in good form this season and will be expected to put in an improved shift in front of the goal.
