Studebaker Avanti was built around two engines. The base models were equipped with V8 R1 engines with OHV. This was a powerful engine with internal components like the 4-barrel carburetors. Another engine option was the R2 engine which was a supercharged engine. This was built around OHV V8 and paxton centrifugal supercharger. Avanti delivered a top speed between 120mph to 130mph.

Advanced Features

Be it technology or interior features, Studebaker Avanti was built with the best. This remained a pioneer of many American vehicles for using the front disc brakes. It was made on lightweight fiberglass body panels. Avanti was available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The Studebaker V8 engine and disc brakes gave the vehicle great control and acceleration. Suspension was equipped with coil springs and leaf springs. This was a 4-seat car with bucket seats, dashboard, radio, speedometer, ammeter, and tachometer. The interior was inspired by European GT vehicles.

Richmond Loewy Designs

The radiator grille was replaced with fascia. It was not a boxy styling, but it was a modern styling. There was a long hood and short rear deck with a low slung stance. Richmond fully styled it in fiberglass panels instead of steel parts. Aircraft and European styling were present.

Safety Features

Studebaker was not a racing vehicle as it focused on luxury and safety features. The engineering was advanced and featured safety equipment. Safety door latches, recessed controls, and front disc brakes were incorporated. Apart from these, the vehicle had a built-in roll bar which enhanced the safety again. The padded dashboard was another great addition which can rescue passengers during issues. Safety door latches were made to protect passengers during collisions. The safety features and braking system ensured the Studebaker Avanti was a top-tier model.

Built in a Short Period

Studebaker Avanti came from one of the best designers in the world. Raymond Loewy designed the vehicle under 50 days. Based on reports, the Avanti model was designed in just 40 days. As it didn’t have a grille and other modern features, it was easy for the designers to complete it soon. Built around fiberglass panels, it was another advantage for Raymond.
